Crochet me a scarf.

I am someone who just wants to learn every new craft and when I found out from a friend about a 2 day crocheting retreat, I was just a bit excited. My friend and I meet some lovely and helpful people who showed us extreme beginners...think I couldn't even do a chain stitch, how to begin to crochet. It's extremely addictive and relaxing but I look forward to when I get a bit less stiff and a bit faster.

We began by learning the chain stitch, followed by the double crochet and treble. It took me a good while to feel comfortable doing a treble stitch and I started a granny square. A granny square isn't too hard as it's really just 3 trebles, chain, 3 trebles, chain and then you add two chain to each corner. If this doesn't make sense to you, I suggest youtube.  I'm not a huge fan of the colour but am hoping to add some other colours and make a giant granny square.
The main project of the retreat was to make an infinity scarf which is a scarf with one twist that shows no beginning or end. It's my first finished crochet product and although it's not perfect- I do feel proud that I made it myself...especially since I took so long just to get the hang of the chain stitch.

While the colour choices of the wool provided were not really my colours, I hope to improve my skills and then I can make all kinds of beautiful things...

There is just so much inspiration out there and now I have some contacts to call too when I get stuck.

  1. I must warn you: crochet can be completely addictive. It's been just over a year since I picked up a crochet hook and wool again and I haven't really stopped. I love that I can be watching TV (or listening to boring speakers at work) and still be doing something productive, though. It's a great way to fill in times like that.

Your first scarf looks fantastic! I hope you keep having fun with it all.
