Mirror mirror on the dresser.

 I have a dressing table at home and was delighted to find a hand mirror in the free box at the local op shop. It was in need of a bit of cleaning but scrubbed up nicely. I've recently found a product called 'gumption' at the supermarket, that helped to remove all the horrible dirt and build up around the mirror. It came off very easily with a scrubbing brush.

The mirror has a cardboard backing - the original must have fallen off some time ago. I decided to use an old favourite- washi tape- to give it a quick and simple update. I love the florals and it just makes the mirror feel like a special piece for my dressing table.

Fabric tape makes my heart sing.

I don't know if you can buy fabric in tape form in Australia. You certainly can't find it where I live so when I was in singapore I bought a lot of it (3 rolls for $2- what a bargain). In fact I kind of wish I'd bought more as I'm having to ration it since I do love it so. I shared my fabric taped pot and today I thought I'd share a few other ways fabric tape is rocking my world ( you can really sense the love :))

Remember this beautiful little frame that I scored on the macklemore thrift shop challenge? I used fabric tape and this here print to create my own pretty little artwork. 

I'm a Christian and love to share that proudly in my home but I wanted to step away from the sort of things you find in Christian book shops and share my faith in my kind of style with a little display in our dining room. If you're wondering what's with the glasses hanging above, if I did a full scale photo you'd also see my rake glass display.

I really love how the fabric tape, frame and print fit so beautifully together. But my fabric tape obsession doesn't stop there as my tape dispenser and lamp also got a little bit of fabric tape love.

Some crafty inspiration.

January has just flown by. I can hardly believe we're already almost a month down in 2013.Now that I'm back from holidays and at work, I've finally been able to start a few new projects. Today I'd share some things that have been inspiring me.

I'm developing a love of house plants. I would never have thought I'd long for some greenery inside my home as I used to scoff at mum's large collection of house plants. However things change and I am enjoying my new house plants. Mum gifted me a plain red pot for christmas and I used some fabric tape to spice it up a bit. I've actually gone a bit fabric tape crazy since picking up a whole lot in singapore for a few dollars. It has an incredible number of uses and just makes everything look so pretty!

Novelty food always excites me - remember the sombrero cake we made for the mexican party. Over the holidays I tried out a few new novelty food ideas including the above sausage wreath. For this wreath I used cocktail frankfurts inside bread with a light layer of butter on top. I baked it in the oven for about 10 mins and then added a little capsicum bow. It actually tasted pretty good and went nicely with a salad to serve 4.

I've had long brown hair for as long as I can remember so this year I'm trying to expand my extremely limited hairstyling repertoire and bring in some braids. I've been expermenting lately and hoping to improve my skills. This braid started at the front of my head and then continued on and was simply bobby pinned in place.

And last but definately not least- an amazing cupcake stand made from reused records. I can't take credit for the insanely cool stand but this lovely gift has been inspiring me to get more creative with making useable kitchen items. I may even try to make my own version one day...

Crafting- Malaysian style.

On our recent holiday I was lucky enough to see some examples of local Malaysian arts and crafts that I thought I'd share. They're a bit different to my everyday crafts and I love experimenting with new materials.

Batik painting

Now this is not the first time we have been to Malaysia and not my first experience with Batik painting but my first time visiting a Batik factory and seeing the whole amazing process from start to finish. The whole process is very labour intensive and produces some beautiful results.

Basically the print is stamped on in wax or, on some occasions, hand drawn. Then each piece is hand painted ensuring none of the paint spreads into the wrong area. The people that paint it have some amazing skills.

Husband and I actually had a go at our own painting on our honeymoon. We choose a wax painting from a selection of options and used paints provided to fill in the gaps. Then my kind mother in law got it framed for me as a birthday present.

It's definitely not as neat as they do it, but we love it and it's a special reminder of a very special holiday.

Pewter designs

We went to a pewter factor and saw some fabulous pewter work. We also got to attend 'the school of hard knocks' and create our own pewter bowl. We started with a pewter circle and through a lot of hitting in a specially designed bowl and using a hammer like tool we banged out our own pewter bowl (It was actually way more labour intensive than I first thought it would be and I was knocking away for a good 20 minutes- husband lovingly took over a few times too when my arm was getting sore).

The bowl is perfect for holding all my hair supplies and looks cute too near the lovely bunny ring holder that husband gifted me for christmas.
