Cloud mobile.

Okay, I'll admit it- sewing nursery items is just a whole lot of fun.  The room is just bursting with homemade goodness and all I felt it was missing was a little mobile.I felt that a little bit more colour on the walls was necessary so I wanted a mobile that tied in the colours of the nursery (yellow, green and grey). I really love my cloud shelf and wanted to make a mobile that tied in with the same theme using some supplies I already had around the place, especially as my craft room is still bursting with supplies and using existing items fits my tight budget better.

To recreate this mobile you will need:

Scrap pieces of felt

White thread

Toy stuffing

White embroidery floss

A small piece of ribbon

For this mobile I used white, grey, aqua, mustard, lime green and citrus yellow felt scraps. I choose these colours as I already owned them and they fit with the colour scheme of the nursery. 

To make the cloud I simply free handed a cloud shape and cut two pieces to size. Thankfully a cloud is one of the easiest items to draw. I then stitched the two cloud shapes together and filled them with toy stuffing.

For the rain drops I made a raindrop pattern and cut out 18 pieces this size. I used blanket stitch to stitch two pieces together and filled each raindrop with a little bit of toy stuffing.

Once I had made 9 raindrops I worked out a colour pattern and stitched the raindrops together (roughly the same distance apart) using some white embroidery floss.

To complete my mobile I sewed a small piece of ribbon to the top to hang the mobile from. Then to attach the mobile to the wall, I simply nailed it in place.

For some reason I can't quite get the walls to look as minty green as they really are. I have tutorials on how to sew the quilt and elephant softie.The cot was a gumtree purchase and I'll share more details when I post a nursery room reveal.

I think it turned out just right...another handmade touch for my little munchkin and the room is complete for now (except for the most important little person of course!). Thank God for the blessing of this little one growing in my belly and time to work on my sewing skills.

Felt artwork.

I am always a fan of having powerful and inspiring quotes throughout my house and wanted to have a biblical quote  in our main living room. After looking through my craft supplies I was inspired to create a quote artwork using felt. 

To create this artwork you will need:

A stencil

A texta

Felt in a range of colours

A frame and canvas.

White and grey paint

Sharp scissors

PVA glue

Trace the letters onto the coloured felt and cut them out by hand. I used a range of colours I had on hand and rotated them randomly so there isn't any pattern in the writing. All I tried to do was make sure I used each other about the same amount of  time. The canvas was a lovely apricot colour so it was in need of some paint.

Once this was completed I painted the canvas with two coats of grey paint and the frame( which was previously plain wood) with white paint. This fabulous canvas and frame combo was $2 from a garage sale but the cheap shops sell canvas' for hardly anything. I then arranged the letters in place and glued them on with PVA glue.

And there you have it, my new quote artwork. I'm quite chuffed with it and love the even sizing of the letters. However I am still considering getting some blue and pink felt and swapping some of the letters to make the overall look even brighter and more colourful. For now though I'm just going to enjoy it as it is and use it as a daily reminder.

More fun with felt.

 

I had the privilege of babysitting my niece for a few days in the holidays. She is just so adorable and fun and I love that I have time to do this kind of thing- definately one of the perks of being a teacher. 

I've been staying with my parents in the city while hubby is at home working and when I get a little bit of free time, I tend to bore easily and need things to keep my hands busy so I thought I'd also make a little something for my niece.

Felt is so fun to work with and relatively inexpensive (esp when you score a whole pile for a few dollars from an op shop). I already had some thicker felt rectangles lying around (I have no idea where they came from) but they were great for the backing. Then I cut the felt into pieces and occasionally I sewed a few bits together ( like the glasses and smile on the sun).

My niece and I had some fun with it this morning though I think she'll be even more into when a little bit older (maybe two and a half) I think I might keep adding to it too with a little boat and some more animals.

Felt garland lover.

I'm on holidays at the moment and loving every minute of it and today is my 100th post! 

It's been a while since I really had time to just craft. I got a load of felt the other week and was excited to see what I could turn it into. I've seen lots of different types of felt garlands and decided it would be just a little bit fun to make my own. I am thinking they'll end up in my craft room to add a splash of fun and quirky colour.

To create my love heart garland I needed felt (in three colours), embrodiery floss, scissors, a texta and a cookie cutter in a heart shape (or you could make your own stencil using cardboard).
I simply cut out the hearts, created a pattern and sewed them together using a large needle.

I'm in love. I think this garland is just so darn cute and am sure I'll find the perfect little nook in my home for it when I get back. It was such an easy and fun project that I'm inspired to make a whole lot more these holidays. They'd make nice gifts I think or decoration for a party or wedding.
